電話・アポイントメント⑤会食の約束をする
マット：こんにちは、ケイコ、マットです。僕の東京出張の旅行手配について、聞きたいことがあるのだけど。
ケイコ：ええ。何でしょう？
マット：羽田空港から赤坂オフィスまで、どうやって行けばいい？
ケイコ：私たちが空港にあなたを車で迎えに行き、ホテルまで車でお連れします。
　　　　オフィスはホテルからわずか徒歩5分の所にあるので、誰かを迎えに行かせます。

Matt: Hi, Keiko. This is Matt. I just wanted to ask you something about the travel arrangements for my Tokyo visit.
Keiko: Sure. What is it?
Matt: How do I get to our Akasaka office from Haneda Airport.
Keiko: We'll pick you up at the airport and drive you to the hotel first.
　　　The office is just a five-minute walk from the hotel, so we'll send someone to collect you.

マット：どうも、ティム、マットです。
ティム：やあ、マット。連絡くれてうれしいよ。
マット：来週、出張で東京に行くんだけど、どこかの時点で会うのはどうかなと思って。
ティム：いいね。
マット：来週の火曜日、夕食はいかがかな？
ティム：スケジュールを確認してみるよ。

Matt: Hi, Tim. This is Matt.
Tim: Hey Matt, good to hear from you.
Matt: I'll be in Tokyo next week for business trip, and I was wondering if we can get together sometime.
Tim: Good idea.
Matt: Are you available for dinner next Tuesday?
Tim: Let me check my schedule.

ティム：来週の火曜は出張することになってるんだ。木曜か金曜はどう？
マット：金曜なら都合がいいよ。
ティム：アツシも誘ったらどうかな？　彼も君に会いたいだろうし。
マット：うん、そうしよう。代わりに電話しておいてくれる。

Tim: I'm supposed to be out of town next Tuesday. How about Thursday or Friday?
Matt: Friday will work for me.
Tim: Why don't we ask Atsushi to join us? He'd love to see you too.
Matt: Yeah, let's do that. Could you call him for me?

■車で~を迎えに行く　pick ～ up
■明日朝9時に迎えに行きます。
I'll pick you up at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
■車で拾ってくれる？

■スクールバスは毎朝8時に迎えに来て、学校に連れて行ってくれます。
The school bus picks me up every day at 8 o'clock and takes me to school.
■~から歩いて5分の距離 a five-minute walk from ~
■「ここからたったの5分です」と普通に言うときは It's only five minutes from here.
■「歩いてたったの5分です」と言うときは It's only a five-minute walk. / It's only five minutes' walk.
■「電車で10分」であれば、It's a 10-minute ride by train.
■「飛行機で7時間」であれば、It's a seven-hour flight
■「我が家は駅から歩いてたった5分です」
My house is only a five-minute walk from the station.
■誰かを~しに生かせる、誰かを~に派遣する。
■例えば「機械が故障した」という電話に「すぐに誰かを修理に伺わせます」

■迎えに行く。collect, meet, pick ~ up
■空港に着いたら電話をください。そうしたら誰かを空港に迎えに行かせますので。
Call us when you arrive at the airport, and we'll send someone to meet you.
■…はどうかなと思って、もし良かったら…していただけませんか？I was wondering if ~
■誰かに頼みごとをしたり、誰かを誘ったりするときの決まり文句。直接「してください」「しませんか？」ではなく「if以下のことについて、どうかなと思っていました」と、ちょっと遠回しに言うことで、丁寧な感じを与えます。
■例えば「ちょっと時間を空けていただけないかと思って」＝「時間を空けていただけませんか」
I was wondering if you could make yourself available.
■もしよかったら、これを終わらせるのを手伝っていただけないかと思って。
I was wondering if you could help me finish this.
■集まる、寄り合う get together
■いつか会いましょうよ。Let's get together sometime.
■一杯飲みに行こうよ。Let's get together for a drink. Let's get together for a beer.
■今度食事しようよ。Let's get together for dinner.
■来週集まって飲もうよ。
We should get together next week and have a drink.
■~する時間はありますか？　~はいかがですか？ Are you available for ~
■形容詞 available は「入手できる、利用できる」が中心的な意味。そのほかに重要なのが「空いている」という意味である。
■「明日ランチをする時間ある？」＝「明日、ランチをご一緒にどうですか？」
Are you available for lunch tomorrow?
■今日の午後会議をする時間はありますか？
Are you available for a meeting this afternoon?
■これについて来週お話ししたいです。火曜は会議をする時間はありますか？
I want to talk about this next week. Are you available for a meeting on Tuesday?
■出張中である。町を出ている　be out of town
■ビジネスの世界で街を出ているといえば出張しているという意味になります。
■来週は出張でいません。
I'll be out of town next wee.
■彼は出張中です。
He is out of town.
■彼は地方出身です。彼はこの街の出身ではありません。
He is from out of town.
■すみません、ロビンソンさんは今、出張中なんです。伝言はございますか？
I'm sorry, Mr. Robinson is out of town right now. Would you like to leave a message?
■~なら私は大丈夫です。~will work for me
■workは動く、効く、うまくいくなど様々に使えて便利な動詞。
■ここで取り上げた＜日時＞ will work for me の work は「うまくいく」という意味から広がって、「都合がいい」という意味になります。
■明日は大丈夫ですか？　明日の都合はどうですか？ 明日は大丈夫ですよ。
Will tomorrow work for you?　Tomorrow works fine for me.
■私は4時なら大丈夫だと思います。あなたの都合はどうですか？
I think 4 o'clock will work for me. Is that a good time for you.

■では明日の夜にお会いできますよね。－－－はい、8時に車で迎えに行きます。
So, I guess I'll see you tomorrow night. --- Yes, I'll pick you up at 8 .
■なぜジェーソンさんのパーティに行かないんですか？－－－その日は出張中なんです/町を出ているんです。
Why aren't you coming to Jason's party? --- Because I 'm going to be out of town that day.
■オフィスへの生き方を教えてもらえますか？－－－ご心配なく、空港まで誰かを迎えに行かせますよ。
Can you give me directions to the office? --- Don't worry about it. I'm sending someone to meet you at the airport.
■エレンとラリーにあってからもうずいぶん経ちますね。－－－そうですね。また近々集まりたいですね。
It's been a long time since we've seen Ellen and Larry. --- I know. We should get together with them soon.
■そのレストランは私の家からわずか5分の所にある。
The restaurant is just a five-minute walk from my house.
■もしよかったら今週の金曜日、一緒に出掛けませんか？
I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me this Friday.
■これについてはすぐに話し合わなければいけないな。あなたは15日は空いてる？
We should talk about this soon. Are you available on the 15th?
