■UNIT24　プロジェクトの計画・立ち上げ　④現場の責任者に会う　「経験を生かさなくては」
■マルコ：こちらはタカ・ウエダです。このフロアの配置をどうするかを彼が見てくれています。
■タカ：お会いできてうれしいです！
■ニール：やっと会えてうれしいよ、タカ。顔と名前を一致させられるのはとてもうれしいことだ。
■タカ：どうも、ニール。実は、僕たちがまとめた計画にアイデアを提供してくれたことにお礼を言いたいと思っていたんです。
Marco: This is Taka Ueda. He's been taking a look at how we arrange the floor space.
Taka: Nice to meet you!
Neil: Good to meet you at last, Taka. It's great to put a face to the name!
Taka: Thanks. Neil. Actually I've been wanting to thank you for your ideas on the plans we put together.

■タカ：機器をこんな風に数列に並べて配置すると、機械の間を空気が通りやすくなります。
■ニール：これからもっとスペースが必要になった場合はどうなる？　ワルシャワですでに学んでいることは、考えに入れておかねばならない。
■マルコ：そうですね。あのセンターが作られたとき、誰も今のような状況になるとは予想していませんでしたし。
■タカ：大丈夫でしょう。QAフロアはかなり頑丈です。天井の高さも現状で必要な高さよりあります。
Taka: If we arrange the equipment in rows like this, it'll be easier for air to flow between the machines.
Neil: How about if we need more space in the future? we have to take on board what we've learned already in Warsaw.
Marco: That's true. When that center was built, nobody would've expected the situation we have now.
Taka: It should be fine. The raised floor is pretty strong. This room is also taller than we need right now.

■ニール：この件に尽力してくれてありがとう、タカ。
■タカ：どういたしまして。この段階でチームに加われるのはうれしいですよ。
■マルコ：今日はだいぶいろいろなことを前に進めたと思いますよ。
■ニール：そういうことだね。じゃあ、いつもマルコが話している素晴らしいイタリアンレストランのいくつかを利用してみるのはどうかな。
Neil: Thank you for your hard work on all this, Taka.
Taka: No problem. It's great to be part of the team at this stage of the process.
Marco: I think we've really moved things forward today.
Neil: That's the idea. Now, how about we take advantage of some of these excellent Italian restaurants Marco is always telling us about?

■もうちょっと見てみる、調べてみる、確認する　①take a look
名詞のlook を使ってtake a look や have a lookというと、「ちょっと見る、さっと見る」というニュアンスになります。
「何を」みるかはat ~で表現します。また、lookの前にgood（十分な）、careful（注意深い）、close（綿密な）などの形容詞を置けば、「じっくり見る」になります。
（恐らく、今日全部やる時間はないと思うのですが、ちょっと見ておきます）
I probably won't have time to do the whole thing today, but I will take a look.

■顔と名前を一致させる、名前だけ知っている人に実際に会う ②put a face to the name
名前だけ知っていたとか、メールや電話でやり取りはしていたけれど、面識はなかった人に実際に会った時、It's great to put a face to the name.
（とても頻繁に電話で話していた販売部長とついに会い、ようやく顔と名前が一致して嬉しかった。）
It was great to meet our sales director after speaking so often on the phone, and finally put a face to name!

■組み立てる、（考えなどを）まとめる、企画する　③ put together
put together は「寄せ集める、組み立てる」から広がって、「アイデアや意見を集約する」、「（原稿などを本に）編集する」、「（出し物などを）企画する」など、いろいろな意味で使われます。例えば、「展示会用に新しいパンフレットを作らなきゃ」
(We need to put together new brochures for the exhibition.) ここで、put together は、make や prepare と同義で使われています。
（来週の会議のためのデータをまとめる機会をまだ持ててない）
I haven't had a chance to put together the data for next week's meeting yet.

■数列になっている、きちんと列に並べられている　④ in rows
row は「列」で、in rowsは「数列に（きちんと）並べられた状態である」ということ。例えば The new products are lined up in rows. 「新製品が列にきちんと並べられている」という意味。単数形で in row とすれば「一列になっている」。
例：彼らは外で一列になって待っていた。 They all waited outside in a row.
in a row には「連続して」という意味もあります。
例：彼らは5年連続でタイトルを獲得した。They won the title five years in a row.
（このプログラムは、データと支店名を列に並べて表示します）
This program displays the data with the branch names listed in rows.

■現段階で、現時点で　⑤at this stage of the process
直訳すると「一連の過程の中のこの段階で」ですが、要は、at this stage（現段階で）、at this time（現時点で）ということ。回りくどいですが、「プロジェクトの進捗を意識していますよ」という気持ちを表すフレーズです。proces の他にphase（局面、段階）を使うこともあります。
（現時点で我々にできるのは彼らのフォローを続けることだけです）
Following up with them is really all we can do at this sage of the process.

■~を前進させる、~を進展させる　⑥move ~ forward
文字通り、「前へ動かす」、すなわち「前進させる、進展させる」という意味で、言い換えれば、resoleve issues and make progress （問題を解決して進歩する）ということ。会話例では moved things forward で「いろいろなことを前進させた」＝「いろんな進展があった」という意味で使われています。
（今朝の我々の働きで物事がかなり進展したので、今では明確な計画が立っている）
Our work this morning has really moved things forward; we now have a clear plan.

■そういうこと。その調子。それが大事。それが狙い。⑦ That's the idea.
That's the idea.は「それこそが考え方です」＝「そういうこと」。会話で、自分が伝えたかったことを相手がしっかりつかんでいると感じたとき、相槌として That's the idea. （そうそう、そういうこと。よくお分かりですね）といったりします。何かを教えてあげて、相手がそのコツをつかんだように思えたときにも、That's the idea! （その調子！）と励ますことができます。
（この取引で利益を上げられるだろう、それが狙いだ！）
With this deal we'll make a profit, and that's the idea!　

■~をうまく利用する、~を生かす、~に大いに活用する　⑧ take advantage of ~
take advantage of ~には「自分の都合のいいように利用する」というニュアンスもあり、Don't take advantage of her kindness. （彼女の好意に付け込んじゃダメだよ）のようにも使いますが、ビジネスなどの場面では「機会を十分に生かす」「大いに利用する」という意味でも使います。We should take advantage of the night view from this table.（このテーブルから見える夜景を大いに楽しまなくては）という表現も可能です。
（市場におけるわが社の確固たる地位をうまく利用することが重要だ）
It's important that we take advantage of our strong market position.

■今夜は何を計画しているの？－－－ええと、友達のためにちょっとしたディナーパーティを企画しているんだ
What are you planning to do tonight? --- Well, I've put together a little dinner party for some friends.

■じゃあ、どちらのフロアも開発部用ってこと？－－－うん。そういうことなんだ。
So both floors will be for development, is that right? --- Yes. That's the idea.

■経営陣の会議は何時から？－－－スケジュールを確認してみます。
What time is the management talk on? --- Let me take a look at the schedule.

■このプロジェクトは費用がかなり掛かりそうですか？－－－現段階ではまだわかりません。
Is this project going to be expensive? --- At this stage of the process, it's difficult to tell.

■ジョンに会えた今、ようやく名前と顔が一致した。
Now that I've met John, I can finally put a face to the name.

■その箱を床に並べてください。
Place the boxes in rows on the floor.

■物事が前進したら支払いの件もお願いします。
We can talk about payment when we've moved things forward.

■円高をうまく生かさなきゃ。
You should take advantage of the strong yen.
