ジム：僕は１日、結構忙しかったよ。君はどうだった？
マリ：ええ、かなり忙しかったわ。昼ごはんも食べ損ねたくらいよ。
ジム：そりゃたいへんだったね！　最近は何をやっているの？
マリ：中国人観光客向けのパッケージツアーの手配をしているのよ。春節の休暇がもうすぐそこだから、私にとっては今が1年で一番忙しい時期なの。

Jim: My day was pretty busy. How about yours?
Mari: Yeah, very busy. I even had to miss lunch.
Jim: Sounds tough! What are you up to these days?
Mari: I'm arranging travel packages for Chinese tourists.
Chun Jie holidays are just around the corner, so it's the busiest period of the year for me.

ジム：仕事のあとちょっとビールでもどう？
マリ：そうしたいけど、無理だわ。今夜は残業しなきゃ。
ジム：いいじゃん。リラックスする時間が必要だよ。
マリ：このレポートを遅くとも10時までに提出しないといけないの。実は昨日が期限だったの。

Jim: How about a quick beer after work?
Mari: I'd love to, but I can't. I have to work late tonight.
Jim: Come on, you need some time to relax.
Mari: I need to turn in this report by 10 at the latest. Actually, it was due yesterday.

ジム：スターバックスで何か買ってきてあげようか？

■直訳すると「角を曲がったところ」は「すぐ近く」という意味合いで使われる。
